The UCLA Anderson Global Impact Map is the collective mark our alumni, faculty and students have made. It was created so that the legacy of our 75th Anniversary lives on. As its theme is “The world needs work that matters,” the contributions to the map should adhere to the theme. Here are four helpful examples:
(Those who have been change agents through their leadership -- entrepreneurial, corporate, or anything in between.)
Launched One of the Fastest Growing Entertainment Companies
During an Anderson business writing class, Horn and his then-partner, Mike Lloyd, pitched a board game based on a series of "Would you rather…" questions. The game - dubbed ‘Zobmondo!!, That Crazy "Would You Rather" Game’ - was a huge hit with the class and at Anderson's Knapp Venture Competition, where potential funders lined up for meetings with Horn. Today Horn is president of Zobmondo!! Entertainment, named in Inc. magazine's fastest growing companies for a third year in a row, and with annual sales approaching $7 million.
(Those who made a difference by showing social responsibility, charity, philanthropy and community leadership.)
Promotes Children’s Literacy in Rural Guatemala
Linda Smith embodies the idea that entrepreneurial skills may be used for social gain. She founded Reading Village, a thriving not-for-profit organization that promotes children’s literacy in rural Guatemala, where dropout rates are 75 percent before the sixth grade.
(UCLA Anderson faculty and/or academic alumni who have made a "beyond usual" impact through their research, teaching, writing, or their public- and private-sector endeavors.)
Professor Bhagwan Chowdhry co-founded the Financial Access at Birth (FAB) initiative, which aims to place $100 in an electronic savings account for every child born in the world. FAB’s goal is to achieve financial and social inclusion for the world’s poor in two decades.
(Managers and executives whose work has gone beyond their own companies to cement their status as an industry leader or inventor of a segment.)
Leads the World's Largest Asset Management Firm
In 2010, Fink, chairman and CEO of BlackRock, was again named one of the "100 most powerful people in the world" by Forbes. Anderson's 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award winner, Fink's been a major player in the financial industry since earning his MBA in 1976. Since its inception in 1988, Fink has built BlackRock to become a global firm with 8,500 employees in 24 countries. A renowned philanthropist, Fink's generous leadership and financial contributions led to the school naming the Laurence and Lori Fink Center for Finance and Investment in his honor.
